Büyükçekmece Residences
Description
Located within one of the few preserved ecological basins of western Istanbul, Büyükçekmece Residences reimagines architecture as a quiet negotiation with topography. Rather than imposing itself on the land, the project follows the natural inclines of the site, creating terraced levels that generate multiple perspectives, spatial rhythms, and unique relationships with the horizon.
Each residence is anchored to the ground through a fluid architectural language shaped by slope, sunlight, wind, and view. The homes do not spread across the land as fixed objects; instead, they settle into its natural layers, allowing every space to encounter light, landscape, and privacy in its own way.
While the project nurtures individual privacy, it also creates a strong sense of community through shared courtyards, shaded gathering areas, outdoor kitchens, and in-between spaces. At its core, a greenhouse and a farm-to-table restaurant symbolize a renewed relationship between nature, production, and collective life.
